Joel Alter (aka Alter Schwede) has been on covers of magazines - fishing magazines! growing up in a small place called Sävedalen, he discovered his love for nature and that certain Swedish melancholia, which is always to find in his music, very early. Taking lessons in Electronic Music at the local music store, no synthesizers he could get his hands on was save anymore. After he started to go to raves when he was 16 years, he explored Jazz, Funk and Disco, and was heavily influenced by Massive Attack, Depeche Mode and Hip-Hop. After coming to Berlin in 2008, he pretty much blessed every club in town with one of his eclectic DJ sets ranging from House to Techno. Still he would state his background and record collection as much bigger influences than Berlin itself. He is totally taken up in being a DJ as he always understood his music as a way to connect with other people.

Saltate is one of our special guests on WHY NOT festival. Fredrik, alias Saltate also plays in a Swedish Synthpopband based in Göteborg. Recently he started playing records on the side, since he loves to get down on the dance floor. In order to avoid a flood of 16-year old groupies, we decided not to mention his band and go with this new alias. Please clap your hands in the air for Saltate, our world premiere.
Josefine Hellström Hansson
Home: Malmö, Sweden
DJ, producer and raising star Josefine Hellström Hansson just came up with her debut vinyl release Water Cave EP on Swedish label Heartbreak Records / HMWL. By getting excellent reviews she quickly entered top charts on Decks and Traxsource! Based in Malmö, southern Sweden, Josefine Hellström Hansson finds her home in the underground techno scene, with previous and upcoming gigs in Berlin, Copenhagen and Stockholm. Her sound ranges from deep house to techno, and as a classically trained pianist she loves melodies, especially combined with unique textures, edge and powerful grooves.
Starting her career in Copenhagen's nightlife at the age of 16, Bosnian DJ Ena Cosovic now spins her eclectic style at clubs and events across the Danish capital as well as other cities in Europe. Currently she's a resident at Copenhagens finest club, Culture Box, where she has shared booths with some of the worlds most prominent DJ's. 2016 also marks the premiere of True Rotary Recordings, a label run by Joel Alter and Ena Cosovic. Stemming from a longstanding mutual appreciation for the combination raw techno with more seductive sounds, the label is a natural development of Joel’s and Ena’s musical and personal partnership. True Rotary Recordings represents their mutual musical vision and vibe that they love. Keeping it raw and genuine. First release by Jor-El is set for September 2016. Lover of records, especially old, she keeps on digging for melodies and textures. The core is techno, with a touch of house and the occasional acid.

Gloria was hard to reach recently. First, round birthday, then CSD, and a, the week after, (s)he got married...and when Berlin’s second most famous LGBTQ person (after former Berlin mayor “Wowi”) and most definetely Germany’s biggest (tallest) transvestite has a wedding party one cannot expect any serious artist info within a week or two. Many years ago, we booked her to Wilde Renate for a SIN reunion party, then we did an Icelandic TV thing together and now we are soooo happy to feature this super-hot 2,20m (WTF!?!) tall legend to impress on Sweden. Her music? Please be patient with that info until he has cured her hangover. Meanwhile, google him!

Stockholm DJ-duo Y+M, consisting of Malin Evrenos and Ylva Lundberg, stands at the forefront of Stockholm’s vibrant underground scene, spending most of their time playing techno or house in various clubs, warehouses and forest clearings. Starting out some 5 years ago, they have played most of Sweden's top venues, as well as festivals like Sónar, Way Out West and Cult Cosmic. Y+M have also warmed the decks for a number of influential DJs and producers, like Blawan, Luke Slater, Shed, Erol Alkan and James Ruskin. Their primary focus is dancefloor-oriented techno that is hypnotic, decisive and rhythmic, but they also sometimes play house sets that are minimal yet energetic, filled with punchy kick drums, acidic leads and playful hi-hats.

You don’t know what a DJ professor is? Well, by inviting Gavana & Anaya to WHY NOT’s line-up we gave you the chance to get to know two outstanding examples for DJ academics.
Anna Gavanas ( PhD /Associate Professor at ISV/Remeso, Linköping University) is co-editor of the internationally renowned book "DJ Culture In the Mix." Together with her co-author Anna Öström, alias Anaya, she also publicized the book “DJ life: the history of Stockholm’s DJ culture”, released this year on Gidlunds Press.
Gavana & Anaya have been an integral part of the Stockholm DJ-scene since the late 90s. Musically they play a wide range of electronic dance music: deep, bold and always with a twist. After nearly 20 years behind the decks they are not afraid of mixing sounds and beats from all over the place and they love vinyl. Their first DJ residence was the queer fetish club Lash 1998-2003. Together Gavana and Anaya founded the network Sister Sthlm which was the biggest Swedish network for female producers and DJs 2003-2008.
